Estelle – Stay Alta

Estelle’s latest album, “Stay Alta,” released May 23, 2025, marks a significant evolution in her musical journey. Here we’ll try to delve into the album’s context and sound, attempting to capture my appreciation of Estelle’s artistry.

Estelle Fanta Swaray, known mononymously as Estelle, is a British singer-songwriter, rapper, and producer hailing from West London, England. Born on January 18, 1980, she has garnered acclaim for her eclectic fusion of musical genres, including R&B, soul, reggae, grime, hip hop, pop, and dance.

Estelle has enjoyed many collaborations with prominent artists including David Guetta, John Legend, Robin Thicke, and will.i.am.

Her breakthrough single, “American Boy” featuring Kanye West, achieved international success and earned her a Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.

This new album’s title “Stay Alta” suggests a thematic focus on elevation and resilience, and these resonate throughout the album’s tracks. The production showcases Estelle’s growth as an artist, blending her signature style with sounds that reflect her diverse musical influences.

The track “Fire” has been on heavy rotation in my car and office this past week. An incredible song that displays Estelle’s comfort across many genres, all in one song. It may be one of my favorite tunes of 2025.
