Conceived as a walk in the woods, ‘Oiseaux de Paradis’ is a dreamlike escapade that brings together a surreal aviary in an imaginary landscape. The listener is invited to plunge into a jungle of sound from which emerge, for fleeting moments, colourful creatures with bewitching songs. The alto and soprano saxophones converse with the marimba and vibraphone and a whole bestiary of woodblocks, cuica, guiro and other unusual little percussion instruments. The works emerge from a framework of electronic sounds that runs through the opus from start to finish, conceived as a showcase and composed by Gabriel Michaud.
